The City of Helsinki’s master plan is a general plan, which also includes the city’s partial master plans and a partial master plan directory map. The master plan allocates areas for housing, jobs, transport, nature conservation and recreation, for example. The master plan is presented on the map, and it also includes the plan entries and regulations as well as a description of the plan. The task of master planning is the general steering of the urban structure and land use of the city or part of it, the location and coordination of activities. Local planning is also used to guide town planning. The master plan indicates the municipality’s long-term land use solutions and allocates area reservations for future housing areas, services, business operations, traffic and reservations restricting land use, such as areas of recreational, conservation and cultural historical significance. The master plan is approved by the City Council. In addition to the City-wide Master Plan 2002, Helsinki has an underground master plan and partial master plans: Partial master plan for archipelago and sea area (10350); East-Jollas partial master plan (10541); Jätkäsaari partial master plan (11350); Central Pasila partial master plan (11356); King’s oak partial master plan (11640); Partial master plan for Sörnäistenranta and Hermanninranta (11650); Part master plan of Kruunuvuorinranta (11756) and part master plan for the eastern part of northern Haaga (12199).
