From a plane, this survey tests the amount of potassium contained in rocks and soils below. This allows us to map different types of rocks and soil and find areas that are high or low in potassium. Knowing about the chemical make up of soils and rock is of use to farmers, telling them how the soil is formed. The findings can also be used by people looking for minerals (materials taken from the ground used for things we need from mobile phones to the stones used to build roads and houses). The data can also be used to help map radon gas.
