The objective of this study was to characterize the microbial community of non-critical healthcare surfaces using next generation sequencing technology. Composite samples were collected from high-touch surfaces in rooms of patients isolated for multidrug-resistant organism infections (Acinetobacter baumannii (AB), Clostridium difficile (CD), Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE)) during their hospitalization.
