Photobacterium profundum strain SS9. This is the type strain for the species. It was isolated at a depth of 2500 m from the Sulu Trough. The genome contains 15 rRNA operons, the majority of which are on chromosome 1. There are 2 ATP synthase operons, one on each chromosome. Chromosome 1 contains more conserved genes, while chromosome 2 contains a large proportion of unique genes. High-pressure adaption has been studied by microarray analysis (ArrayExpress - E-MEXP-210).
