Biological Investigation Programme 2007-2016
According to the Quality Target Ordinance Ecology Surface Waters (BGBl. II No 99/2010 idgF), the biological quality components Phytobenthos (PHB) are simplified (simplified: Algae) and benthic invertebrates (macrozoobenthos, MZB) (simplified: invertebrates inhabiting the water floor alongside the fish fauna and macrophytes (simplified: higher aquatic plants) used to determine the ecological status of surface waters. They have high significance especially with regard to the material load and therefore serve to determine the biological state with regard to material stress. The results of sampling from 2007 to 2016 at Upper Austrian flowing waters — sampling points of the Biological Investigation Programme (BUP) — are displayed. The assessment is carried out via an assignment to one of the 5 status classes: very good, good, moderate, unsatisfactory, bad; The given environmental objective is to achieve or maintain at least the status class.
