Geologic values POL

The inventory of geological values for the province of Limburg for the benefit of the POL was carried out by the Geologic Values Platform of the Foundation for Geometric Values (SAW) on the basis of expert judgement (Gonggrijp et al., 1999). The inventory also used data from 1986, 1989 and 1990 (Gonggrijp, 1986; Wolfert, 1989 and Wolfert, 1990). The methodology used was developed by Gonggrijp (1996) and has been accepted as a standard by the empire and subsequently applied in the national inventory of geological values in the so-called “operation land ice” (Koomen, 1999). In the award of value, particular attention has been paid to the aspects of characteristic, rarity, educational value and coherence. In particular, the aspect of coherence has been heavily taken into account in the assessment. As a starting point, the geologic elements and patterns are clearly visible. The inventory and assessment have led to the declared legend units and valuation in the legend of Map 4f. In GEA areas, the geographically valuable areas of large size are to be subdivided into areas of international/national importance and areas of provincial/regional importance.
