NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING (NLP) TECHNOLOGIES FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION: DEVELOPING GRAMMATICAL AND PRAGMATIC COMPETENCE

This paper examines methodologies for developing learners' grammatical and pragmatic competence through Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies including Grammarly, ChatGPT, and Language Tool. NLP algorithms provide automated grammatical error detection, vocabulary usage suggestions, and context-based approaches to teaching collocations and pragmatic language use. The study demonstrates how NLP technologies enable real-time, just-in-time feedback, personalized learning experiences, and corpus-based linguistic recommendations. We analyze the mechanisms underlying NLP technologies, examine empirical evidence of effectiveness, discuss limitations and challenges, and present optimal implementation strategies combining NLP tools with teacher-led instruction in hybrid learning environments.
