#Sonar Opinion Polls: #-------------------- #From August 1989 Sonar has carried out a number of opinion polls, i.e. surveys of attitudes and habits of life of the adult Danish population. The opinion polls have been carried out regularly in the period (approx. 10 times a year), and each opinion poll includes about six different subjects as well as the question of the respondent's voting intention at a hypothetical general election on the day of the interview. # The opinion polls have been carried out in collaboration with the daily paper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten. The subjects for the individual opinion poll are agreed upon at a meeting between the editorial staff of Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten and Sonar; however, the wording of the questions is the sole responsibility of Sonar. # The following background information is included in the data material: #The household: #- Total number of persons #- Sex and age of the household members #- Type of dwelling #- Car in household #- Geocode-2 # #The respondent: #- Year of birth #- Sex #- Gainful employment #- Designation of occupation #- Membership of a trade organization #- If yes: Which organization #- Vote at the last general election #- Driving in own car # #Sonar Opinion Polls, 1989: #-------------------------- # #In 1989 Sonar carried out 5 opinion polls. All the questions have been included in DDA-1674: Sonar Opinion Polls, 1989. In addition, the individual opinion polls are found in DDA-1675 to DDA-1679. # #The individual opinion polls deal with the following topical issues: # #Sonar Opinion Polls 1989: August (DDA-1675): #Party preference; assessment of Poul Schlüter as prime minister; preferred prime minister if Poul Schlüter should step down; preferred prime minister after a hypothetical general election in the autumn; attitude to the Great Belt link project; number of TV channels in the household; attitude to TV 2; attitude to a reduction of TV 2's broadcasting time versus an increase of the TV licence fees; vote at the general election on 10 May, 1988; attitude to the so-called industrial summer holidays, in which the majority of Danish firms and companies are closed at the same time; attitude to illegal refugees; the risk of a world war before the year 2000; assessment of which countries are likely to start a world war; type of dwelling; car in household; and frequency of driving. # #Sonar Opinion Polls 1989: September (DDA-1676): #Party preference; membership of the Danish National Church; reasons for being a member of/resigning from the National Church; holidays abroad in the winter term (November-April) within the last five seasons; winter holiday plans; attitude to the proposed new death criterion (cerebral death); the impact of this new death criterion on organ transplants; attitude to the so-called donor testaments; planned sale of house, flat, car, boat or caravan; and attitude to how Denmark should react if the coming rulings of the EC Court mean that the Great Belt link project has to be stopped. # #Sonar Opinion Polls 1989: October (DDA-1677): #Party preference; sources of information on political issues: the functioning of democracy; book reading habits; type of literature preferred; newspaper reading habits; attitude to the extended opening hours of the new Shops Act; whether any members of the household are attached to the retail trade; the Government's long-term economic policy; possible co-operation with other parties regarding this policy; vote at the coming local election (on 21 November); and issues of importance when deciding which party/candidate to vote for. # #Sonar Opinion Polls 1989: November (DDA-1678): #Party preference; vote at the coming local election (on 21 November); attitude to the so-called percentage rule, i.e. the rule requiring a party to win at least 2% of the votes cast in order to be represented in Parliament; assessment of Poul Schlüter as prime minister; preferred prime minister after a hypothetical general election in a couple of months; the Government's long-term economic policy; possible co-operation with other parties regarding this policy; various discount schemes; sports and physical exercise; and attitude to a number of statements on young people of today. # #Sonar Opinion Polls 1989: December (DDA-1679): #Party preference; assessment of the parties represented in the Danish Parliament; Christmas dinner traditions; the compromise on the Budget for 1990 between the Government, the Centre-Democratic Party, the Christian People's Party, and the Progress Party; attitude to some of the issues included in the Budget (the lowering of the petrol duty, the increase of the tax on motor vehicles according to weight, and the annulment of the duty on consumer loans); number of kilometres driven per year; positive and negative aspects of Christmas; the Government's long-term economic policy; possible co-operation with other parties regarding this policy; Christmas present expenditure; expectations of 1990 as regards Denmark's economic situation and the family's financial conditions; attitude to financial aid to countries in Central and Eastern Europe; and attitude to a reunification of Germany
