Milling Oats Agronomy in Southern New South Wales 2025

Raw Data from Grains Research and Development Corporation funded National Grower Network project Milling Oats Agromomy for Southern New South Wales from 2025. The project is led by Brill Ag in collaboration with Eurofins Kalyx with trials conducted at Marrar and Ganmain, both in the Riverina region. Data generated from repliacted small plot trials (plots generally 20 square metres each) investigating interactions between milling oats varieties (including core varieties Goldie, Koala, Mitika, Kowari, Minnie plus other secondary and unreleased varieties) and sowing date (April and May); nitrogen rate (nil to 120 kg of nitrogen per hectare, applied as urea), fungal disease management (primary crown rust and stem rust), pre-emergent herbicide tolerance (trifluralin, Boxer Gold, Voraxor, Callisto, Terbyne, Dual Gold, Diuron) and comparisons with other cereal species (wheat and barley). Trials were either split-plot design (including sowing date, disease management and species comparison trials) or randomised complete block design (includign nitrogen management and pre-emergent herbicide trials). Primary data collected was crop establishment (plant counts), crop vigour (normal differential vegetation index), biomass at maturity, harvest index, grain yield (machine harvest) and grain quality (test weight, screenings, protein content, fat content, fibre content).
