The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has identified approximately 510 acres of land for a Class III (intensive) cultural resource survey. The land was withdrawn for the Salt River Project (SRP) and is located upstream from the Granite Reef Diversion Dam on the south side of the Salt River. The withdrawn land is within the Tonto National Forest (TNF).
At the request of Mr. Howard T. Christensen of Reclamation, Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the project area to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might occur within the parcel. The fieldwork was conducted between August 9 and 17, 2004 by Donald W. Jolly, Linda M. Schilling, Paige Barlow, Lisa K. Champagne, Adam L. Kelker, and Andrea Miller, working under noncollection permit MES192 issued by TNF. Five sites and 94 isolated occurrences were identified.
This is the report for this survey.
