Three different cell lines (MCF-7, MCF-10A, MCF-12A) were exposed to varying concentrations of BPA, BPA-analogues, pendimethalin and pendimethalin formulation. These cell lines were exposed to BPA and bisphenol alternatives (bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol AP (BPAP), bisphenol B (BPB), bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol Z (BPZ)). Besides bisphenols, the cells were also exposed to pendimethalin to test if the systems used can detect estrogenic properties of other chemical classes. Pendimethalin is a herbicide commonly used in the UK on arable crops and it is suspected to have endocrine-disrupting effects. The pure standard of pendimethalin, as well as its commercial formulation, were used.
