The province protects the Gelders Nature Network (GNN) this is a coherent network of existing and developing nature of international, national and provincial interest. This Gelders Nature Network consists of all areas with a nature destination within the former EHS and also contains a search area of 7.300 ha for the 5.500 ha of new nature to be realised. The update plan was adopted by the Provincial States on 19 December 2018.
