Survey of river cancer populations in Gesäuse National Park

A survey of river cancer populations was carried out in the Gesäuse National Park in autumn 2020. For this purpose, shore mappings were carried out on six sections in the Enns, three feeders and two standing waters, as well as partial rausen surveys. Only in the grief pond, in the immediate vicinity of the Gstatterboden power plant, river crabs could be detected. It is a signal cancer population (Paciafastacus leniusculus) with a good population. In autumn 2020, the occurrence and distribution of crayfish in the Gesäuse National Park was surveyed. For this purpose, riverbank mapping, and in some cases trap surveys were carried out on six sections of the Enns, three tributaries and two stagnat waters. Crayfish were only detected in the Kummerteich pond near the Gstatterboden power plant. The crayfish found are signal crayfish (Paciafastacus leniusculus) with high population densitiy.
