Due to the challenges associated with the bioremediation of cold-climate groundwater and soil, the objective of this study is to develop an alternative and new enzymatic approach that can effectively degrade petroleum hydrocarbons (mainly BTEX) in cold and contaminated groundwater sites. A total of 22 cold-active bacteria were isolated and identified (MN203655.1, MN197883.1, MN203657.1, and others). One of these isolated bacteria, Arthrobacter psychrolactophilus strain S2TR-06 (MN203655.1), had a unique degradation ability that led us to decide to sequence the genome in order to understand more about enzymes and genes that are likely to be present in its genome.
