Labor-OME project: Characterizing agricultural microbiomes, resistomes, and mobilomes on the skin surface of swine workers and swine

Utilizing a cross-sectional investigation based on a work-phase framework and multi-site composite skin sampling, we performed 16S microbiome and target-enriched shotgun metagenomic sequencing to interrogate the ecosystem topology, composition, and stability of farm worker and swine microbial taxa as well as the composition of resistomes and mobilomes during the course of a work shift in a commercial swine farm in the United States Midwest. We subsequently identified complete metagenomic assembled genomes (MAGs) of relevant organisms found at the worker-swine interface.
