We assessed the ability to use a micro-size optical detection system to measure oil using fluorometry detection principles. Crude oil provided by BP was prepared with nonane to concentrations of 1, 10, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 ppm oil. The solutions were introduced by a syringe pump into a microchannel. The microchannel had a microfludic chip and two 600 micron optical fibers were injected into the chip and one membrane lens. One fiber was connected to a 365 LED light for excitation. The other fiber was connected to a USB 4000 Spectrometer to receive fluorescence signal with a Integra time of 100 ms. A 400 nm filter was used to avoid the influence of emission light. This dataset reports the spectra from 1, 10, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 ppm oil.
