Dataset of soil physical, chemical, and hydraulic properties from Austria (1992–2024)

This dataset contains physical, chemical and hydraulic soil properties from 2203 sampling sites across Austria, collected over a period of more than 30 years. The data originate from project-based sampling campaigns and long-term monitoring programmes, covering agricultural areas, forest soils and selected alpine regions. All samples were analyzed using standard laboratory methods available at the time. The results were harmonized and quality-controlled before being compiled into the final dataset.

The dataset consists of six tables: 'meta.csv' (metadata), 'physical.csv' (soil physical properties), 'chemical.csv' (soil chemical properties), 'various.csv' (additional soil physical characteristics), and 'ret.csv' and 'cond.csv' (Hyprop measurements of soil water retention and hydraulic conductivity). A detailed README file provides descriptions of all variables and data structures.
