Saccharomycopsis schoenii strain:GDD12 Genome sequencing and assembly

This study presents a chromosome-scale genome assembly for Saccharomycopsis schoenii, a necrotrophic yeast predator that actively kills and consumes other yeast species. Fungal predation remains underexplored at the molecular level despite its ecological importance and potential for biocontrol applications. The primary goal was to generate a high-quality reference genome to enable systems-level interrogation of predatory mechanisms. Using PacBio HiFi long-read sequencing combined with Hi-C proximity ligation for chromosome scaffolding, this assembly achieves near-complete chromosome-level contiguity.
