Rangifer tarandus caribou isolate:CA-31 Genome sequencing and assembly

Rangifer tarandus (caribou/reindeer) is an iconic species with a circumpolar distribution in the northern hemisphere. Caribou are inhabiting the boreal and arctic regions of North America and the boreal ecotype is listed as threatened under the Species at Risk Act since 2003.The caribou genome assembly will be useful for genome architecture studies of adaptation in ruminants as it presents very high contiguity obtained with long and linked reads. This genome assembly will also pave the way to genomic tools development aiming at informing conservation efforts for the species.
