The Dead Sea is a hypersaline lake (>35 % total dissolved salts). In the Dead Sea there are freshwater springs coming in at different depths. Microbial life is enriched around these springs including the formation of biofilms. We obtained an enrichment culture of a green sulfur bacterium from such a biofilm and have sequenced its metagenome.
