Love in the Moment Couples Study 2, 2023

Couples attended two laboratory sessions together, two weeks apart. During the lab sessions, they had several videorecorded interactions. Between lab visits, they independently completed nightly diaries each night. There was an experimental manipulation at the beginning of the second lab session. They completed an online survey prior to attending the first lab session, measures after each conversation in the lab, and a brief online survey three months later.

At the initial lab session, they engaged in 4 conversations: how they would spend their time over the weekend, what they would do together with a surprise $2000 gift card, something that frustrates them about their partner, and how they first met.

At the final lab session, they engaged in 6 conversations: each person shares something they admire about the partner (2 conversations), each person discusses a goal they want to achieve in the coming 3 months (2 conversations), each person tells the partner something they appreciate about them (2 conversations).

The initial goals of this project focus on developing a measure of love in the moment and testing questions about power, so we have quite a few items on these topics. However, please see standardized meta-data below for a comprehensive description of constructs that could be used to test a wide range of hypotheses.
