Super spirals are the most massive spiral galaxies in the universe. They have very high rotation speeds and specific angular momenta that break from the Tully-Fisher and Fall scaling relations. We suspect that they are under-massive for their dark matter halos comma with their baryonic mass limited by inefficient gas cooling and accretion. Alternatively comma they may have been spun up by cold accretion flows or gas-rich major mergers. In order to definitively distinguish between these two possible super spiral formation scenarios comma we propose to measure the luminosity and temperature of the hot gas halo of the fastest spinning super spiral 2MFGC 12344 using XMM-Newton.
