The files run on Matlab, and create the data underlying fig1 to fig5 in Kokko 2024 Methods Eco Evo, as described below. For details, see commentary within each file. Fig 1fig1.m is a simple script creating three exponential declines. Fig 2fig2a.m creates Fig 2a of the paper, while fig2b.m creates data underlying Fig 2b-d. Note that due to stochasticity, each run of fig2b produces a different number of cycles before extinction. Fig 3fig3.m is a script that creates Figure 3. Note that originally, the y axis locations for the horizontal arrows were created using rand([1 3]), but the current version replicates the exact locations that were randomized back then, which explains the numerical values given (0.23627, 0.08885, 0.63286). New arrow locations can be created by using rand([1 3]) instead. Fig 4fig4.m uses an ODE solver to create the temporal dynamics and to use numerical integration to find out how many females are still unmated at the end of the season. The system of differential equations to be solved is described in the function unmatedness.m and this is automatically called by the script fig4.m. Fig 5fig5_computations.m creates data (by calling malesearch.m to perform the calculations) that underlies Fig. 5, and fig5_plotting.m plots the results based on files thus created.
