Effects of gut bacterial sphingolipid production on host skin homeostasis

Mammalian skin is a large sphingolipid reservoir but how the gut bacterial sphingolipid production influences the host skin tissue is unclear. Our transcriptomic and amplicon sequencing data from mice skin compares gene expression and skin microbes between mice orally-gavaged with sphingolipid-producing Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron and mice orally-gavaged with either the sphingolipids-null B. thetaiotaomicron, vehicle control, or no gavage.
