Family focused practice with EASE: Psychiatric nursing student English datasets

Between 12-45% of all mental health patients are parents with mental illness. The identification of parenthood and provision of support for these parents can minimise the impact of their mental health on their parenting and the impact of the stresses of parenting on their mental health. However, the current support for parents who are patients within UK health services is limited. The study evaluates a pilot educational workshop designed to enhance the family-focused practices of healthcare professionals. This two-hour workshop will use a brief practice framework (EASE) which may help reduce the intergenerational transmission of poorer outcomes for children whose parents have mental illness.This project evaluated whether the EASE workshop improves knowledge and confidence of nursing students (n70) who have undergone the training using items from the Family-Focused Mental Health Practice Questionnaire. It also identified student’s perspectives on family-focused practice and the workshop and determine students’ satisfaction with the EASE family-focused practice education.Data was collected online via an anonymous survey administered before each training session and at one-week follow-up.
