YouthViolence 2015

UngVold 2015 is a comprehensive youth survey on exposure to violence and abuse among students in their final year of upper secondary school in Norway, carried out by NOVA. The survey builds on UngVold 2007 and is the second in a series of population-based youth surveys on violence and abuse in Norway. The survey series was later expanded in 2023 to include students at all grade levels in upper secondary school.

The UngVold surveys cover a wide range of different forms of violence and abuse, including young people’s exposure to psychological and physical violence from parents, witnessing violence, sexual abuse within and outside the family, and violence in peer contexts. The surveys distinguish between experiences in childhood and experiences in adolescence, and by being conducted repeatedly they enable analyses of changes over time.

The data from UngVold 2015 are of high quality and have been used as a basis for numerous scientific and popular science publications, as well as in various government policy documents. The data collection design builds on NOVA’s other large youth surveys, such as “Young in Norway” and Ungdata. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security commissioned and funded the UngVold 2015 survey.
