Climate change and the demand for recreational ecosystem services on public lands in the continental United States. Global Environmental Change.

In this paper, we investigate how climate impacts the demand for recreational ecosystem services across all federal and state public lands in the continental U.S. We use a 30 km x 30 km grid, and find the following for each grid cell: Flickr photo-user-days by season, climatological mean of maximum temperature from 1990 - 2019 by season, population within 50 km and 500 km, km of roads within public lands, and total area of public lands, National Park Service lands, and designated Wilderness.

This repository consists of R and Python code used to collect data and run analyses (in the code folder), the shapefiles we downloaded and used for this analysis (in the shapefile folder), and data outputs produced by the code (in the data folder). Further documentation and explanation is in the "Instructions and data flow" word document.
