Research on Refugee Non-formal Education in Greek Islands

Dionysios S. Gouvias is Professor at the Department of Preschool Education and Educational Design (“TEPAES” in Greek) of the University of the Aegean (Rhodes, Greece), where he is serving as the Director of the Laboratory of Educational & Social Research.

He has twenty-three years of teaching experience in Higher Education. His research and writing focus mainly on Educational Policymaking, Inequalities in Education, Intercultural Education and Gender in Education. He has taught for more almost twenty years in Adult Education programs, using blended-learning methods. He is academically responsible for a LLL program titled “Society and Gender: Identities, Institutions and Policies” (440 training hours / 22 ECVET), which is offered by the Training and Lifelong Learning Center (“KEDIVIM” in Greek) of the University of the Aegean.

He has worked in two (2) of TEPAES Master's programs: a) in “Gender and New Educational and Workplace Environments in the Information Society" (academic years: 2003/04 - 2013/14), and b) in “New Forms of Education and Learning" (2014/15-today).

He is also a member of the Associate Teaching Staff of the Hellenic Open University for 2020-2023 and for 2023-2026, working for a Master's program titled “Educational Science”.

He has participated in 11 funded research programs at national and regional level, as well as in many small programs in the context of his duties at the TEPAES. He has published four books (one –in press—is in English) and edited four collective volumes (one in English).

He is a gender expert and a registered trainer of the Center for Equality Issues (“KETHI”) and the National Center for Public Administration & Local Government (“EKDDA”). He is member of the Gender Equality Committees of the: University of the Aegean, the Municipality of Rhodes and the South Aegean Region of Greece.
