Toxicity assessment data from subchronic inhalation exposure to a school air mixture (SAM) of PCBs

This dataset is related to research article: Comprehensive subchronic inhalation toxicity assessment of an indoor school air mixture of PCBs. In this research, we generated a school air mixture (SAM) of airborne polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), designed to match the profile of an older school from our adolescent cohort study (the AESOP Study). Female Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed either to SAM or filtered air (sham) in nose-only exposure systems, 4 h/day for 4 weeks. Positive control rats (n=6) for neurobehavioral testing were administered 1-bromopropane (1-BP) daily by gavage at a dose of 800 mg/kg for 12 days. Congener-specific air and tissue PCB profiles were assessed using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry for 209 congeners. Comprehensive toxicity assessment was conducted including neurological, immune, endocrine, hematopoietic, and reproductive systems. The underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms were discussed. This dataset provides congener-specific profile for generated PCB vapor, and the tissue congener-specific PCB profile normalized by fresh weight. All the other original toxicity assessment data were available in this dataset.
