Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a Gram-negative bacterium and ubiquitous in nature. The World Health Organization currently lists it as an important multi-drug resistant pathogen. Due to its multidrug resistance and strong biofilm formation ability, the clinical treatment of infectious diseases caused by this bacterium is extremely difficult. Maltocin P28, a R-type phage tail-like bacteriocin produced by S. maltophilia P28, can be developed as a new antibacterial agent for the treatment of S. maltophilia infections. The whole genome of strain P28 was sequenced to reveal the biosynthetic regulatory mechanism of maltocin P28.
