1. Data Content: This dataset provides snow depth and snow water equivalent (SWE) data over the Asian Water Tower region from August 2012 to July 2020, with a spatial resolution of 0.25° and a temporal resolution of 1 day. The spatial coverage spans 70–105°E and 25–50°N. 2. Data Source and Processing Method: The subset of the Asian Water Tower region was extracted from the global passive microwave snow depth retrieval dataset supported by snow physical process models (AMSR2, Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2; Pan et al., 2022). Then, the high-resolution (3 km) snow depth product retrieved by combining optical and passive microwave data based on physical mechanisms during the 2019–2020 snow season was used as the reference ground truth to conduct pixel-wise calibration on the extracted subset at the 0.25° resolution scale, generating calibrated snow depth and SWE data. The snow water equivalent was converted from snow depth using the annual average snow density per pixel calculated by the SNTHERM (Snow Thermal Model) snow process model. 3. Data Quality Description: The high-resolution (3 km) snow depth dataset, which served as the reference standard, has a root mean square error (RMSE) of 10 cm (within the range of 0–120 cm) compared with in-situ observations from meteorological stations. After converting the high-resolution snow depth data to 0.25° resolution, the correlation coefficient between the converted data and the newly generated calibrated snow depth data is 0.79. 4. Data Application Prospect: This dataset is suitable for snow cover-related research over the Asian Water Tower region.
