Rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi in the epidermal cell of Fundulus heteroclitus scale. Endoplasmic reticulum studded with protein-manufacturing ribosomes form a continuous network along the periphery of this section of the cell. Along the surface of some of the ER folds are energy-generating mitochondria. Deeper into the cell are stacks of cisternae forming the Golgi. Vesicles packaged by the Golgi are visible at the peripheries of these stacks and are found scattered throughout the cytoplasm.
