Metatranscriptome reveals the function shifts of the vaginal microbiome during the treatment of bacterial vaginosis

We performed a metatranscriptome analysis vaginal fluid samples obtained from 14 patients at 40 time points (4 with 5 time points and the rest with 2 time points) during antibiotic treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV). Six patients did not respond to metronidazole treatment: of the 8 patients that responded to treatment, 5 patients had a relapse at a later time point. In this study, we devote to identifying the genes potentially lead to no response to the treatment, the beneficial microbes in health, the functional alterations in BV and the possible causes of BV relapse.
