The patronatus admits different approaches, from the public law and also from the private law. In this paper I deal with public patronatus as it's cited in the spanish municipal laws examining their requisites trough a comparison between the Lex Ursonensis and the Leges Malacitana and Irnitana, and the significances of 'patronum cooptare' and 'patrocinium deferre'.
