Five emptyings of a Malaise trap (Western Germany) were processed with DNA metabarcoding. The study compares different methods of tissue homogenisation as well as the overlap between subsamples at extraction. It thereby provides an approach for increasing species detection of insects from complex Malaise trap bulk samples.
