A Ph.D thesis submitted to the University of Southampton in which synchronic and diachronic GIS approaches are used to reinterpret Neolithic land use in southern Calabria, Italy. Paying close attention to the environmental and biological requirements within economic strategies shows that Neolithic land use to be much less agriculturally determined than traditionally assumed.
