Parramatta Hospital, Westmead Centre opened in November 1978 and is one of the largest medical centres in Australia. It is a teaching hospital for Sydney Medical School at University of Sydney and provides clinical schools for medical and dental students. The centre provides health care services which include general medicine and surgery with related specialties, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, specialised infant care, intensive care, and acute psychiatry.The Minister for Health at the time, Mr Stewart, announced in February 1978 that Parramatta and Westmead would be integrated and that the Board of Directors would be comprised of three from Paramatta Board, three from Sydney University, and six from the general public. The name of the integrated hospitals was to be Parramatta Hospitals.On 4th October 1978 the last Board meeting of the Paramatta District Hospital met and was reconstituted on 6th October as the Board of Directors, the Parramatta Hospitals.This series contains minutes, agendas, and associated papers for the Board of Directors of the Parramatta Hospitals.
