Volvariella volvacea WC 439 Genome sequencing and assembly

Volvariella volvacea, or the “Paddy Straw Mushroom” is a delicious edible fungus commonly found in Asian cooking. It is widely cultivated on rice “straw” or ther agricultural debris. The genus is closely related to the genus Amanita, but the Straw mushroom can be distinguished from poisonous Amanita species by its pink (not white) spore print. The sequenced strain is housed at the Penn State Spawn Collection, and was collected in China in 1984.
