Towards a Framework to document Architecture Design Workflows.zip

This paper delineates the theoretical contexts of <i>Architecture of Excellence (AoE</i>), which prioritizes holistic, creative design integrating aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability, and <i>Architecture of Production (AoP</i>), which focuses on efficiency. These frameworks translate into <i>design-rich</i> workflows, emphasizing poietic processes, and <i>design-light</i>workflows, prioritizing technical precision and practicality. A case study of <i>Teaching Unit 1</i> at a Department of Architecture compares these workflows through student outputs from 2019 and 2024, revealing their interplay and evolution. The results prompt a discussion on defining a research field to establish a framework for documenting architecture workflows, proposing mapping frameworks for both <i>design-light</i><i> </i>and <i>design-rich</i> workflows to enhance pedagogical and practical outcomes in architecture.
