Amplicon sequencing of Nitrotoga enrichment cultures

Previously, we enriched nitrite-oxidizing Nitrotoga-like bacteria by long-term incubation at low temperature and reported its essential physiological properties. The enrichment process increased the abundance of Nitrotoga-like bacteria to total population up to 80% but did not result in obtaining a pure culture. In this study, an improved isolation strategy was established for purifying Nitrotoga cells from the enrichment culture. A 16S rRNA-based amplicon sequencing survey revealed the relative abundance of 16S rRNA amplicons in each purification procedure.
