Algal oil (AO) is a natural, plant-based, and renewable biological material with high accessibility, which acts as a sustainable and economic source of DHA and suitable for people from different food cultures. In this manuscript, we administered pancreatic acinar cells, i.e., AR24J cells, with sodium taurocholate (STC) to induce acute pancreatitis (AP), and pretreated cells with DHA-rich AO. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first one to show that AO may inhibit STC-induced Ca²⁺ overload, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, amylase activation, and inflammation. In addition, the anti-inflammatory effects of AO are mediated through the inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway.
