Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. Fairness, inequality and intergenerational mobility, 2. Sport and physical activity, 3. EU citizens, agriculture and the CAP.<br>Topics: 1. Fairness, inequality and intergenerational mobility: self-assessment of: personal health status, personal happiness; attitude towards the following statements: most things that happen in personal life are fair, decisions regarding own person are usually fair, equal opportunities in own country for getting ahead; attitude towards selected statements on the following issues in the own country: justice prevails over injustice, people get what they deserve, consistent appliance of political decisions to all citizens, more equal opportunities for getting ahead than 30 years ago, most people can be trusted; attitude towards the following statements on incomes in the own country: differences are too great, government should take measures to reduce differences; attitude towards selected political issues: immigration into the own country, globalisation; self-assessment of personal resilience; importance of each of the following factors for getting ahead in life: coming from a wealthy family, good education, hard work, know the right people, good health, happiness, specific ethnic origin, sex, political connections; assumed coping with personal income fall; financial situation of: current neighbourhood, neighbourhood at respondent´s age of 15; personal feeling of loneliness during the last week; personally experienced discrimination in the last twelve months due to: age, sex, ethnic origin, religion, political opinion, disability, sexual orientation, transgender, place of residence, social class, other reasons; self-rated social position of (scale): respondent himself / herself, parents, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents; occupation of main income earner in the household when respondent was 15 years old; occupation of paternal grandfather; occupation of maternal grandfather; highest level of education of respondent; highest level of education of respondent’s father; highest level of education of respondent’s mother; highest level of education of paternal grandfather; highest level of education of maternal grandfather; sources of household income; household income; knowledge test on income distribution in the own country with regard to: 20 % of people who earn the most, 20 % of people who earn the least; preferred distribution of income in the own country.
2. Sport and physical activity: frequency of sport activities; frequency of physical activities for non-sport reasons; number of days with vigorous physical activity in the last week; average time spent on these activities; number of days with moderate physical activity in the last week; average time spent on these activities; frequency of walking at least ten minutes at a time in the last week; average time of walking; time spent sitting on a usual day; place where engaging in sport or in other physical activities; reasons for engaging in sport or other physical activities; main reasons that prevent from practising sport regularly; membership in the following kind of clubs where participating in sport or recreational physical activity: health or fitness centre, sports club, socio-cultural club; approval of selected statements regarding physical activity: respondent’s residential area offers many opportunities, local sports clubs or other providers offer many opportunities, local authority does not do enough for citizens; personal engagement in voluntary work to support sporting activities; time spent per month on these activities; type of voluntary work: board or committee member, administration, coach or trainer, referee or other official, organisation of sporting events, support of day to day club activities, provision of transport, maintenance of sports facilities or sports equipment.
3. EU citizens, agriculture and the CAP: future importance of agriculture and rural areas in the EU; awareness of the support given to farmers by the EU through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP); Common Agricultural Policy benefits all EU citizens and not only farmers; preferred main objectives of EU agriculture and rural development policy; assessment of selected EU activities in the context of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) as appropriate: ensuring a fair standard of living for farmers, economic growth in rural areas, ensuring reasonable food prices, guaranteeing food supply in the EU, ensuring sustainable food production, environmental protection and tackling climate change, ensuring quality of agricultural products; main responsibilities of farmers in society; importance of each of the following CAP priorities: developing research and innovation in the agri-food sector, strengthening the role of farmers in the food chain, encouraging young people to enter in agricultural sector; attitude towards selected statements on the contribution of CAP to: boosting investment and growth in the agriculture or food sector, helping the smooth running of the EU Single Market, improving trade relations between the EU and the rest of the world, mitigating the impact of climate change, extending coverage of broadband internet and communication services in rural areas; assessment of the amount of financial support from combined national public expenditure and from the EU budget to farmers as appropriate; assumed reasons for spending 40 % of EU budget on Common Agricultural Policy; desired development of financial support to farmers over the next ten years; preference for decision-making on EU level, on national or on regional or local level with regard to: ensuring a fair standard of living for farmers, ensuring reasonable food prices, guaranteeing food supply, ensuring quality of agricultural products; importance of selected factors in purchasing decisions of food: provenance, respect of local tradition and know-how, quality ensuring label; awareness of selected logos; importance of logos in purchasing decisions; attitude towards the following aspects of food products from organic agriculture: safer, better quality, more expensive, better taste, produced under better environmental practices, produced with restricted use of pesticides or antibiotics, respect higher animal welfare standards, difficult to find in shops; attitude towards reducing payments to farmers not fulfilling the following standards: food safety standards, animal welfare standards, environmental standards; attitude towards the EU continuing to give payments to farmers carrying out ´greening´ activities; attitude towards the following statements on trade barriers to imports of agricultural products: refusal of trade barriers, trade barriers with exception of imports from developing countries, imports only under the precondition of compliance to EU standards; assessment of trade agreements between the European Union and other countries as positive for: EU agriculture, consumers of food products; development of the following issues with regard to rural areas in the own country over the last ten years: economic growth and jobs, environment and landscape, broadband internet coverage and mobile phone services, access to social and cultural services, participation in social and economic life; priorities for research and innovation in the agri-food sector.
Demography: nationality; left-right self-placement; marital status; sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community; household composition and household size; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; possession of durable goods (entertainment electronics, internet connection, possession of a car, a flat/a house have finished paying for or still paying for); financial difficulties during the last year; internet use (at home, at work, at school); self-reported belonging to the working class, the middle class or the upper class of society; life satisfaction; expected development of personal living conditions in the next five years; frequency of discussions about political matters on national, European, and local level; own voice counts in the own country and in the EU; general direction things are going in the own country and in the EU; opinion leadership; EU image.
Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; size of locality; region; language of the interview; nation group; weighting factor.
