High-Resolution Optical Coherence Tomography Dataset of Coastal Wetland Root Structures

This dataset contains high-resolution Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans of coastal wetland root segments collected as part of the RhizoAI project. Two complementary data packages are included to support multimodal preprocessing, visualization, and machine-learning pipelines. 1. Raw OCT volumetric scans (TIFF format):This collection includes the original unprocessed TIFF volumes generated directly from the OCT system (~1 GB per scan). Each scan set is accompanied by a logbook file documenting metadata such as root health condition (live or dead), scan position (center or edge of the root), and notes and acquisition details. A Mathematica notebook is provided with two example workflows to facilitate reproduction of the TIFF-to-FITS conversion and to assist with data debugging and quality control. 2. Processed FITS volumes:These files (10–20 MB per scan) were generated using the provided Mathematica script and represent standardized, compact versions of the raw OCT volumes. The FITS dataset is optimized for downstream analysis in the RhizoAI Python workflow, including feature extraction, and machine-learning classification experiments. Together, the raw and processed datasets enable full reproducibility of the imaging pipeline, from acquisition to analysis, and support research in rhizosphere imaging, computer vision, and machine-learning model development.
