In the article “The Correspondence of Pastor Ernst Glück,” theologian Viesturs Rikveilis examines and comments on twenty-four letters written by Glück between 1681 and 1704, some of which are published or transcribed for the first time from the Latvian National Archives. The correspondence portrays Glück as a pastor, translator, and civic figure, revealing his conflicts with the local nobility, communication with Swedish authorities, and moral stance amid war and unrest. Special attention is given to the 1686 letter to the Governor of Livonia concerning noble oppression and the 1701 letter to King Charles XII of Sweden describing raids in Alūksne. The letters illustrate the unity of Lutheran faith and civic responsibility within the historical context of early modern Livonia.
