An O2:H27 Escherichia coli strain was isolated as the causative agent of Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome in an adult in Italy in 2017. The strain (ED1169) was characterized as a Shiga-toxin producing E. coli harboring stx2a and a variant of STp. A novel variant of F4-like fimbriae were encoded on its virulence plasmid.The study is meant to compare the genomic sequence of this strain with those from other Shiga-toxin producing E. coli strains and includes sequences from other strains isolated in Europe.
