Emphasizing Substrate Registry and Orientation in Crystallographic Studies of MOF and COF Thin Films

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are pivotal in molecular separation, catalysis, and energy storage due to their
distinctive structures. Our proposal focuses on MOF and COF thin films, aiming to explore the limits of these materials. We've developed a novel 2D film MOF
and COF class, showing exceptional separation performance. Our breakthrough in crystallization has led to single-unit-cell thick 2D zeolitic imidazolate framework
(ZIF) films with superior hydrogen flux. We've also prepared Zn2(bim)4 and UiO-66-NH2 MOF films, and extended our methods to 2D COF films, demonstrating
impressive separation capabilities. Access to the BM01 synchrotron facility for GIXRD will allow detailed analysis of crystal structures and effects of solvent
annealing and guest molecules on film structure. We aim to further investigate UiO-66 derivatives for selective NH3 separation, contributing to renewable energy
solutions.
