Dataset for "Precipitation recycling in subtropical mountainous islands: the Hawaiian Archipelago" The following files are available: RAINFALL_RECYCLING_d02_CONTROL.nc: Rainfall recycling from the control simulation conducted from 2015 to 2019. The data correspond to domain 2 at 3 km resolution, with output provided every 30 minutes. This dataset also includes static fields such as landmask, terrain elevation, land cover, and island mask. It is used in Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, S2, and S3. RAINFALL_RECYCLING_d02_FOREST.nc: Rainfall recycling from the forest simulation conducted for the year 2018. The data correspond to domain 2 at 3 km resolution, with output provided every 30 minutes. This dataset also includes static fields such as landmask, terrain elevation, land cover, and island mask. It is used in Figure 6. RAINFALL_RECYCLING_d02_BARREN.nc: Rainfall recycling from the barren soil simulation conducted for the year 2018. The data correspond to domain 2 at 3 km resolution, with output provided every 30 minutes. This dataset also includes static fields such as landmask, terrain elevation, land cover, and island mask. It is used in Figure 6. RAINNC_d02_CONTROL_daily.nc: Daily accumulated rainfall from the control simulation conducted from 2015 to 2019. UPWIND_d02_CONTROL.csv: Upwind average over the ocean (units: m/s) from the control simulation conducted from 2015 to 2019. The average is calculated along 154.3°W longitude, between 19°N and 23°N latitude. The data correspond to domain 2 at 3 km resolution and include spatial averages for each Hawaiian island, with output provided every 30 minutes. This dataset is used in Figure 3a-b (arrows) and Figure 5. RAINFALL_RECYCLING_d02_CONTROL_by_island.csv: Rainfall recycling (units: %) from the control simulation conducted from 2015 to 2019. OCEAN_CONTRIBUTION_d01_LARGE-DOMAIN_DISTANCE-2500_NE_by_island.csv: Ocean’s contribution to rainfall over the Hawaiian Islands from the northeastern sector within 2500 km of the islands (units: %). The simulation uses a single large domain at 9 km resolution and covers only June 2018. The data include spatial averages for each Hawaiian island, with hourly output. This dataset is used in Figure 7b. OCEAN_CONTRIBUTION_d01_LARGE-DOMAIN_DISTANCE-2500_NW_by_island.csv: Ocean’s contribution to rainfall over the Hawaiian Islands from the northwestern sector within 2500 km of the islands (units: %). The simulation uses a single large domain at 9 km resolution and covers only June 2018. The data include spatial averages for each Hawaiian island, with hourly output. This dataset is used in Figure 7b.
