Structure from Motion (SfM) DEM of drained lakebed of Slims Lake and front of Kaskawulsh Glacier

This DEM was produced to accurately map the surface of the drained proglacial lake bed at the front of Kaskawulsh Glacier. The partial drainage of Slims Lake in May 2016 provided a unique opportunity to study how a change in proglacial lake volume impacts glacier velocities at the terminus. Lake volume change between 2015 and 2016 was calculated, and the potential for terminus floatation was determined for 2015, 2016 and 2020. Change in floatation status was determined as a cause of slower glacier velocities after the lake drained, explaining 45% of the annual average velocity within 7 km of the glacier terminus.
