Differences in bacterial taxa between treatment-naive patients with major depressive disorder and non-affected controls may be related to a proinflammatory profile

Illumina amplicon sequencing of the V4 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA gene. Samples consists of feces obtained from adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) and non-depressed controls. The purpose of the study was to compare the gut microbiota and systemic inflammatory profile of young patients with MDD before and after initiation of antidepressant treatment and/or psychotherapy in comparison with a non-depressed control group.
