The 1967 Australian National Political Attitudes survey is the first of three precursor surveys to the Australian Election Study series (which is also available in this archive). This study examines the political attitudes and interests of a segment of the Australian public a year after the 1966 Federal election. Variables include evaluation of political parties and their respective leaders; interest in and knowledge of Australian politics; voting history; party affiliation; sources of information about politics; involvement in political party work; familiarity with both State and Federal local members; opinions on a range of national issues such as compulsory voting, government aid to education, Australian immigration; pension and social service spending; involvement in the Vietnam war, and Australia's relationship to the United States; past and current economic well-being and expectations for the future; and social class awareness. Background variables include sex, age, education, household composition, income, occupation, place of birth and parents' place of birth, occupation, education, perceived social class and religion.
